Applying Your 8" Frosting Sheet Topper the Right Way
Follow these six steps carefully for a smooth, professional result on any large celebration cake.

Set Up Your Cake Surface
An 8" topper covers almost the entire top of a standard round cake, so your surface preparation matters more than with any smaller size. Use fresh buttercream that has had time to firm up slightly, smooth fondant, or fully set ganache. A wet, greasy, or condensation-covered surface will stop the custom frosting sheet from bonding and cause it to shift or break down.

Remove the Circle from the Backing Sheet
With fully dry hands, hold two opposite edges of the circle and peel it slowly away from the printed frosting sheet backing. Work gradually and keep an even tension across the whole circle. If the sheet grips the backing and will not release, place it flat in the freezer for 10 to 15 seconds. The brief chill firms the material enough for a clean, undamaged separation.

Use Moisture Sparingly and Deliberately
On a dry surface such as fondant, apply the smallest possible amount of moisture to the back of the custom frosting sheet topper before placing it. A brush barely dipped in clean water, a thin layer of piping gel, or a few drops of edible glue spread evenly across the back is all that is needed. Excess moisture will cause the frosting sheet to wrinkle, bubble, or bleed colour into the surface below.

Centre It, Then Press It Down
Hold the topper at opposite edges and lower it carefully onto the cake surface, starting from the centre and working outward. Once contact is made, use the flat of your hands or a fondant smoother to press from the middle outward in slow, steady strokes. Work any trapped air toward the outer edge until the topper sits completely flat against the surface.

Allow It to Adhere Fully
Once the 8" frosting sheet is down and smoothed, leave it completely undisturbed for several minutes. Resist the temptation to check the edges or adjust the positioning. Any contact with the topper while it is bonding risks lifting the material, creating creases, or leaving marks in the image that cannot be corrected.

Store the Finished Cake Correctly
After applying your custom printed frosting sheet, keep the decorated cake in a cool, dry environment and avoid refrigerating it. The condensation that collects inside a refrigerator is the most common reason edible prints fail after application. It softens the frosting sheet material, causes the image to blur and lose definition, and allows the colours to spread beyond their original boundaries.
